What is the most important type of exercise to prioritize?
This is one of the most common questions I get as a trainer:
“What’s the best kind of workout?”
Is it running? Strength training? Yoga? Pilates? Do I need to go to the gym? How many days a week should I work out? What time of day is best?
There are so many options out there, and with that comes a whole lot of confusion. But here’s the honest answer I always give:
The best kind of workout is the one that works for you.
The kind you enjoy.
The kind you can stick with.
The kind that fits into your life — not the other way around.
Let’s Set You Up for Success
If you hate running, don’t force yourself to run.
If you love it — lace up and go!
If you’ve got young kids and can’t run outside for hours, maybe investing in a treadmill or a quality stroller will help you keep moving. Whatever it is, it has to be something that works with your routine.
If you keep telling yourself you’ll work out later, but that time never comes... maybe it’s time to shift your workout to the morning. Or, if mornings are tough, try signing up for a class or scheduling a session with a friend to keep you accountable.
The Real Key? Consistency
At the end of the day, the most effective workout is the one you’ll do — not just once or twice, but over and over again.
Movement doesn’t have to be complicated or rigid. It should feel good, fit your lifestyle, and most importantly, be something you look forward to (at least most days!).
I’m not here to tell you that you have to do any one type of workout.
What I am here for is helping you figure out what fits your life.
Because when fitness becomes part of your routine — not a chore on your to-do list — that’s when it truly sticks.
So if you're feeling unsure about where to start or how to build a routine that actually works, I'm here to help. I work with clients every day to create long-term, sustainable fitness plans that feel realistic and supportive — not overwhelming.
Let’s find what works for you, together.
